Ranklist

Privacy Policy

Effective April 30, 2026

1. Who we are

Ranklist.io is a community ranking platform operated by Sentire Labs, an independent business run by the site’s founder. This policy explains what information Ranklist.io collects, why we collect it, how it is stored, who processes it on our behalf, and the rights you have over your data. Whenever the policy says “we” or “us,” it refers to Sentire Labs as the controller of your information.

2. Information we collect

Ranklist.io is designed to keep collection narrow. The data we hold falls into the categories below.

  • Account data. When you sign in through Google or Discord, we store the username you choose, your email address, an optional avatar, and the third-party account identifier our authentication provider returns to us.
  • Onboarding profile data. The onboarding wizard asks for an optional age bucket, country, and gender, and asks you to indicate which ranking categories you care about. Each of these fields is optional, and you can skip them.
  • Ranking activity. We store the lists you create, the rankings you submit, comments you post, items you suggest, lists and users you pin, and which lists you have flagged. This is the core record of your participation on the site.
  • Trust and moderation signals. Each profile carries a trust tier, an approved list count, and a strike count that we use to decide whether new content goes live immediately or lands in our review queue.
  • Email and notification preferences. If you sign up for the newsletter or interact with notification emails, we record that consent and store delivery, open, and bounce events that our email provider sends back.
  • Technical data. Like most websites, our hosting platform records the IP address, user agent, and timestamp of each request. We may also see an approximate country derived from the request headers.

3. How we use your information

We process the data above for the purposes below and no others.

  • To create and run your account, including authentication and session handling.
  • To compute community rankings using a Bayesian-smoothed Borda count, which is the algorithm behind the public results on the site.
  • To recommend categories and lists that match the interests you indicated during onboarding.
  • To send transactional emails (welcome, account, comment-reply notifications) and, if you opted in, the newsletter and digest emails.
  • To moderate content. The trust tier and strike count let us decide whether a new list goes live immediately or queues for review, and they let us respond to repeated policy violations.
  • To keep the site secure, debug problems, and improve the product based on aggregate usage patterns.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not seed lists with fake votes, and we do not accept payment to influence rankings.

4. Service providers we use

Ranklist.io runs on a small set of third-party platforms that process data on our behalf. Each of them is bound by their own data-processing terms and privacy commitments.

  • Vercel. Hosts the application and serves every page request. Vercel logs request metadata for operational purposes.
  • Supabase. Stores the database, handles authentication, and hosts user-uploaded avatars. Profile, list, and ranking records all live in Supabase.
  • Resend. Delivers transactional and notification emails and sends us delivery events (sent, delivered, bounced, complaint).
  • Beehiiv. If you sign up for the newsletter, your email address is mirrored to Beehiiv so the newsletter can be delivered. You can unsubscribe directly from any newsletter email.
  • Google. Used for sign-in via Google OAuth and, when ad integration is live, for Google AdSense. See section 6 on advertising.

5. Cookies

Ranklist.io uses cookies to keep you signed in and to remember preferences you set. We describe the specific cookies, who sets them, and how to control them in our Cookie Policy.

6. Advertising

We are integrating Google AdSense to fund the site. Once advertising is live, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Ranklist.io and other sites on the internet. Visitors in regions that require explicit consent (including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland) will see a consent banner before any advertising or analytics cookies are set.

You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or by visiting aboutads.info/choices.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over the personal information we hold about you. These typically include:

  • The right to access a copy of your data.
  • The right to correct inaccurate data.
  • The right to delete your account and the personal information tied to it.
  • The right to object to or restrict certain processing.
  • The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell your data, so this right has no practical effect for Ranklist.io today, but we honor it on principle.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, email support@ranklist.io from the address linked to your account. We respond within thirty days.

8. Data retention

We keep account and ranking data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove personal identifiers from your profile and detach your ballots from your username; aggregate ranking math stays intact so the lists you contributed to do not collapse, but the records no longer point back to you. Email delivery logs are retained for ninety days. Server logs are retained for thirty days.

9. Children

Ranklist.io is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone in that age group. If you believe a child has created an account, contact support@ranklist.io and we will remove the account.

10. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced on the site or by email to active users. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

11. Contact

Privacy questions, deletion requests, or any other concern about your data go to support@ranklist.io. You can also reach us through the Contact page.
